The evolution of arrivals and overnight stays in Romania, during January - November 2020

The arrivals registered in the tourist reception structures in November 2020 amounted to 338,7 thousand, decreasing by 62,5% compared to those of November 2019. Among them, the arrivals of Romanian tourists in the tourist reception structures with accommodation functions represented 94,5%, while foreign tourists accounted for 5,5%.

Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in the tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe - 78,1% of total foreign tourists, and of these 72,6% were from European Union countries.

The overnight stays registered in the tourist reception structures in November 2020 amounted to 679,8 thousand, decreasing by 64,7% compared to those of November 2019. Of these, the overnight stays of Romanian tourists represented 93,3%, while the overnight stays foreign tourists accounted for 6,7%.

Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in the tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe - 80,1% of the total foreign tourists, and of these 68% were from the European Union countries.

The average length of stay in November 2020 was 2 days for Romanian tourists and 2,4 days for foreign tourists. The index of net use of accommodation places in November 2020 was 12,8% on total tourist accommodation structures, decreasing by 16,8% compared to November 2019.

Higher indices of accommodation use in November 2020 were registered at hotels (14,9%), tourist villas (11,7%), tourist stops (11,2%), motels (10,5% ), tourist pensions (10,3%), hostels and holiday villages (each with 9,9%) and agritourism pensions (9,3%).

The arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at the border points, were in November 2020 of 278,2 thousand, decreasing by 67,6% compared to the same period in 2019. The means of road and air transport were the most used for arrivals from abroad, representing 89,6%, respectively 6,5% of the total number of arrivals.

The departures of the Romanian visitors abroad, registered at the border points, were in the month

November 2020 of 475,9 thousand, decreasing by 68,2% compared to November 2019. Road and air transport were the most used for departures abroad, representing 82,9%, respectively 16,3% of the number total departures.

The arrivals registered in the tourist reception structures during January - November 2020 amounted to 5993,6 thousand, decreasing by 51,8% compared to the same period in 2019. Of these, the arrivals of Romanian tourists represented 92,7%, while tourists foreigners accounted for 7,3%.

Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in the tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe - 78,3% of total foreign tourists, and of these 74,3% were from European Union countries.

The overnight stays registered in the tourist reception structures during January - November 2020 amounted to 13819 thousand, decreasing by 51% compared to those of the same period in 2019. Of these, the overnight stays of Romanian tourists represented 93,1%, while the overnight stays of tourists foreign

they represented 6,9%.

Regarding the overnight stays of foreign tourists in the tourist reception structures, the largest share was held by those from Europe - 77% of the total foreign tourists, and of these 73,2% were from the European Union countries.

The average length of stay between January and November 2020 was 2,3 days for Romanian tourists and 2,2 days for foreign tourists.

The index of net use of accommodation places in the analyzed period was 23,8% of the total

tourist accommodation structures, decreasing by 11% compared to the similar period of 2019.

Higher indices of accommodation use were registered in bungalows (29,8%), accommodation on ships (29,3%), hotels (27,8%), campsites (24,4%), tourist houses (23%), tourist villas (22,2%), tourist stops (19,2%) and agrotourism pensions (17,3%).

Most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist reception facilities with accommodation functions came from Germany (55,3 thousand), Italy (38,7 thousand), Israel (28,9 thousand), France (28,6 thousand ) and the United Kingdom (26 thousand).

The arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, registered at the border points, were in the reference period of 4738,1 thousand, decreasing by 60,2% compared to the same period last year. The means of road and air transport were the most used for the arrivals of foreign visitors in Romania, representing 82,4%, respectively 14,8% of the total number of arrivals.

The departures of Romanian visitors abroad, registered at the border points, were in the period January - November 2020 of 9060,6 thousand, decreasing by 58,1% compared to the same period in 2019.

The means of road and air transport were the most used for departures abroad, representing 70,6%, respectively 28,7% of the total number of departures.
